Raynon Chiu's Award-Winning Design: CTS Chengdu Ocean Spring

Blending Architecture and Interior Design for a Unique Sales Center

Raynon Chiu's CTS Chengdu Ocean Spring, a sales center in Sichuan Province, China, is a testament to the seamless integration of architecture and interior design. The project, which began in June 2017 and was completed in May 2018, is a modern two-story building built in the hinterland of White Horse Lake. The design, inspired by the concept of "Shu Mountain Traveling Map," incorporates elements of cloud, mountain, water, and stone, and adopts a romanticism expression method. The design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019.

Chiu's design philosophy is that "interior design is an extension of the architectural design." This approach is evident in the CTS Chengdu Ocean Spring, where the interior design elements are carefully chosen to complement the architectural structure of the building. The design is devoid of excessive decorative furnishings, focusing instead on integrating local culture and the surrounding environment to create a differentiated design.

The building is a modern, simple structure with two floors. It is situated in the heart of White Horse Lake, surrounded by water on all sides. Due to the fluctuating terrain, there is a gap between the water bank and the lake. Chiu addressed this by adopting a multilayer retreat of architecture and close-water method. The exterior wall is enclosed with a panoramic glass curtain wall, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

The design of the CTS Chengdu Ocean Spring is unique in its use of materials and its interpretation of the local culture. Chiu used marble, metal, wood veneer, hard inclusion, and aluminum rectangular tube to realize the design. The building's design is inspired by the "Shu Mountain Traveling Map," with elements of cloud, mountain, water, and stone incorporated into the indoor design. This approach results in a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also culturally relevant.

The building serves multiple functions. The first floor is a club, featuring a reading area, fitness area, parent-child interaction area, catering, and other leisure and entertainment functions. The second floor is primarily for showing, including a sand tray model area, negotiation area, signing area, and office area for business. This multifunctional design makes the building versatile and adaptable to various needs.

In conclusion, Raynon Chiu's CTS Chengdu Ocean Spring is a remarkable example of how architecture and interior design can be seamlessly integrated to create a unique and functional space. The design, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a testament to Chiu's innovative approach and commitment to creating designs that are both aesthetically pleasing and culturally relevant.
